Smiley’s Farm has been hosting the Turnip Green Festival at the Nashville Farmer’s Market for almost 18 years. The farm itself has been around since the 1800’s. They provide and cook the greens that everyone is allowed to sample during the festival. Along with the Turnip Green Eating contest, there is also a cornbread cooking contest. The highlight of the festival is the eating contest, where contestants try to eat 1.76 pounds of greens the quickest. This year’s winner Carolyn Threat wasn’t even going to participate, and didn’t even think of winning.
