IBRA Move-In Day
After seven years, Tennessee is set to host the National part of the IBRA competition. Men, women, children, and even pets are coming from around the country for a chance to win a jackpot of up to $30,000. Revenue from tourist sales are projected to soar for the Nashville area because of this competition.
Tennessee Miller Coliseum is set to host their first IBRA National final competition in seven years. People of all ages are set to compete. The youngest being five years old and the oldest is 80. They refer to their seniors as "masters" as to not be offensive. | It was a very calm atmosphere when we walked through the doors. Inside vendors started to set up in preparation for all the merchandise they planned to sell over the next seven days. Tractors lined one arena side and their marks in the dirt showed it was freshly tilled. Lining the outside posts were flags and banners of the 2016 winners. |

The National competition is expecting about a thousand competing families. These families are coming from all over the world, some as far as Canada. They usually have a group from Italy, but they hadn't shown up yet. | Our gracious host Katie, let me know that they had run out of room in their regular stall. As an alternative they had to set up two big tents through a company from Texas to accommodate the rest of their members. The problem they ran into while we were there was only the right side tent had electricity and there was no way to get the other sides tent to work. |
Each trainer we ran into were more than happy to let us pet and get to know their horses. We even got to meet the owner of the IBRA's wife and their horses. Kristen and her sister Kim are competing with horses that are sisters. An MTSU horse trainer puckers her lips to instruct and command the horse to do particular movements. | "We spend more on horses than we do ourselves." These competitions are no easy feat for owners. Matinance and upkeep can run you over a thousand dollars. Owner Kristen informed us that one vitamin for a horse can be five hundred dollars. But it is well worth when they win jackpots. |
Families are expected to camp out on the grounds all week. Training and competing until next Saturday. |
